A baby girl was born 42,000ft in Turkish Airlines (THY) with the help of cabin crew and passengers after the plane took off from the Guinean capital Conakry to Istanbul.
The woman 28-weeks pregnant began experiencing contractions as the plane took off from Conakry. The baby was christened ‘Kadiju’.
Turkish Airline twitted: Welcome on board Princess! Applause goes to our cabin crew!
Cabin attendant Bouthayna Inanir, who helped the delivery, told the press that Nafi gave the birth while standing. “The lady was in great pain,” Inanir said. “And then the baby was on the seat. This was the hardest part. I had to grab the baby. I took her and give her to the mother.”
The mother and baby, named Kadiju, were taken to hospital when the Boeing 737 landed in the Burkina Faso capital, Ouagadougou, in order to be kept under observation.
Kadiju and her mother are reported to be doing well.
