DJ WilSAF: Sierra Leonean prodigy hitting the airwaves in London

From church to SLBC and Skyy Radio, Sierra Leonean born DJ WilSAF is now an internationally acclaimed disc jockey/presenter

London based Sierra Leone born disc jockey Wilmot Faulkner, who goes by the stage name DJ WilSAF, is not just an ordinary DJ. A presenter and a radio and events DJ who is well known for his baritone voice and unique style of play, he is highly regarded as “The Master Selector”.



He is blessed with exceptional intellectual abilities, which he uses to demonstrate his amazing mixing skills. Drawing upon over two decades of his extensive career as a professional DJ and radio presenter, DJ WilSAF is extremely passionate about his work.

Born in Sierra Leone, and growing up in the Alfred Street-Ross Road neighbourhood in the east of Freetown, DJ WilSAF first started expressing his love for music performance as a choir member at the age of nine in one of Sierra Leone’s most famous Methodist churches, the Wesley Methodist Church. After years of performing at the church, he decided to continue his passion for music by opting to become a DJ and radio broadcaster, which he started pursuing at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Station (SLBS) in 1996. During his seven years of employment there, he served as an Announcer/DJ, assisting in preparing and announcing on the news hour and public notices. He also conducted and presented interviews and hosted live talk shows.

After establishing himself as one of the most outstanding and prolific characters on the radio, DJ WilSAF continued his career at another well-known, reputable radio station, Skyy Radio (106.6FM) for nearly five years, where he continued his career as a DJ/Presenter and Production Assistant. He was partly responsible for organising live talk shows, conducting interviews, promoting the music and artists of Sierra Leone and producing and assisting editors with daily programmes and on-air advertisements.

DJDuring the decade-long civil war in Sierra Leone (1991-2002), DJ WilSAF played a large role in organising a well-received Missing Person’s Helpline, which helped bring together desperate individuals who were misplaced during the conflicts. Over the course of his career, he has also successfully produced jingles, providing voiceovers for various entities.

DJ WilSAF relocated from Sierra Leone to the UK for family reasons and to also further his studies.  “It has been a motivating experience both personally and academically,” he says.

During his time in the UK he has studied various courses such as ICT Systems Support and Principles with Computer System and Network. In order to expand his knowledge and further his studies he enrolled into Brunel University in London and attained BSc (Hons) in Business Computing and BA (Hons) in Sonic Arts (Music).

“I have gained valuable knowledge of understanding sounds in software and hardware, recordings techniques and also knowledge of music composition, performance, improvisation and musicology,” he says.

Now DJ WilSAF is recognised as an international DJ as he has built an extensive reputation DJing in numerous clubs and private events worldwide, particularly in European countries such as Belgium, France, the Netherlands and the UK. A few prestige clubs he had DJed for in London are Home House London, Strawberry Moons, Rainforest Cafe, Penthouse No.1 Leicester Sq., Proud2 and Play Room.

He dedicates two days of his time on his co-owned Internet radio, hosting live radio shows on Monday nights (Night Ride 9pm-11pm) and Friday nights (The Weekend Starter 9pm-12am). Other than this, he is mostly booked for wedding receptions, graduation ceremonies and other private functions. With his excellent catalogue of music collections he can play various genres from the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, Now Dance, Afrobeats, RnB, Hip-Hop and many more.

Besides his love for music and excellent talent DJ WilSAF is just a regular, friendly guy who is dedicated to his family. As a fact, he enjoys spending most of his free time traveling around the world with his family and close friends. When he is not traveling you will find him relaxing at home watching football, basketball or tennis, as he is a dedicated Arsenal FC fan.

DJ WilSAF currently works as a Presenter/DJ and a Computer Analyst.
