Port Loko MP backs postgraduate college Health bill

Sierra Leone – Member of Parliament representing constituency 49, Port Loko District, Hon. Alhaji Serry Dumbuya, on Thursday 4th February 2016 supported the ratification of the bill titled The Sierra Leone Council for Postgraduate Colleges of Health Specialties Act 2015.

The bill is to be an act to establish the Sierra Leone Council for Postgraduate Colleges of Health specialties to supervise and coordinate the training of health specialists and to provide for other related matters.

Making his contribution on the bill at the well of Parliament, Hon. Alhaji Dumbuya commended President Koroma for the good initiatives taking in boosting education in the medical field.

The lawmaker narrated the importance of the bill towards the educational sector, stressing that the bill will save government a lot of resources by providing scholarships to students to attend international institutions of learning.

He said it will help the poor who cannot afford money for international learning.

Presenting the bill, the Minister of Health and Sanitation, Dr. Abubakarr Fofanah, highlighted the importance of the postgraduate course toward the development of the health sector relating to the improvement and development of health education.

Members of Parliament welcomed the initiatives of government for the introducing the postgraduate course for health specialists and highlighted the benefits it will derive in the health sector of the country.

After the bill was read the first and second times and later committed to the Committee of the whole House, the bill was passed into an Act with some amendments.
