Ghanaian government to revive textile industries – Minister

Ghana — In efforts to boost export of Ghanaian textile products the the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Kweku Ricketts Hagan, has disclosed at the 50th anniversary celebration of GTP in Tema government’s commitment in reviving the textile industry.


Pirating of designs affecting Ghana’s textile industry

The textile industry in Ghana was once a very booming industry, which once employed about 25000 workers. Most of these companies produced high quality materials, designs and very good textile brands, which sold, so well on the local market as well as other markets in the West African sub- region.

He said reviving the textile industry would help create more jobs for youths in Ghanaian, adding that the industry would positively impact on the country’s economy and therefore the ministry will do all what it takes to bring to life dormant textile companies.

The Managing Director of GTP, Mr. Kofi Boateng, said power challenges over the years made it hard for companies to do well, also adding that the pirating of their designs also negatively affected their sales.
