SLPP suspends National Secretary General and two others

Sierra Leone: The National Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party, Mr Sulaiman Banja Tejan-Sie and the former Secretary of the Southern Region, Francis Hindowa, are reported to have been suspended by the party while another member, Kolleh Dumbuya, was expelled.

Sulaiman Banja Tejan-Sie: suspended

The offence, according to officials in the SLPP, was ‘putting the party into ridicule’.

The action was reportedly taken during the National Executive Meeting (NEC) of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party held on the 9th and 10th January 2016.

“The action by the NEC has come at a time the membership is fragmented and polarized along camps that are driven by individualism and personal interests.

“The action by the NEC has further divided the SLPP and it shows the determination of few people in the party to continue to dictate to the membership,” an angry party member confided to SPECIMEN.

The suspension and expulsion of the party members has made some to question the party hierarchy’s decision claiming the action was illegal and geared to protect the interest of the former SLPP flag bearer Rtd. brigadier Julius Bio.

Last year, the SLPP held a two-week regional, district, constituency, and zonal level consultative meetings and interactions for supporters in the south-eastern provinces where they endorsed Bishop Dr. J.C. Hamper and other members to drive the process of setting an agenda for an all-inclusive family dialogue conference to take place before any future party convention or conference to elect new national executive officers.
