Kenya – KCB Group has entered into an agreement with Easy Taxi, one of Kenya’s leading online taxi service to enable customers pay for their rides using the KCB Pepea Debit Card.
The partnership will see KCB and Easy Taxi— a mobile phone-based application —customers to download the App and link it with their Pepea Cards. Customers will then be able to pay for taxi services using the debit cards.
Speaking during the official unveiling of the partnership, Easy Taxi Kenya Chief Executive Officer Mr. Paul Ndichu noted that the incorporation of KCB Pepea into the Easy Taxi App will increase convenience for customers and reduce over-reliance on cash or mobile money to pay for taxi services.
“KCB Pepea Card brings on board a new experience and fantastic features. Through this channel, customers will be able to track their expenditure as well as eliminate the dangers that come with handling of physical cash. The increased convenience that the KCB Pepea Card brings to the Easy Taxi APP, is not just for individual clients but also for corporate clients who will find this mode of payment more convenient, Mr. Ndichu said.
KCB Retail Director Mrs. Annastacia Kimtai said the new partnership is a game changer in the fast growing taxi-hailing service in the country, as the economy gradually moves into digital payments.
“Among the bank’s strategic initiatives is to embrace technology since we believe that it is only through that, that we believe brands will create a highly personalized dialogue, targeted to individual customers in order to improve the customer journey, boost loyalty and yield positive results in terms of sales”, she said. “We are seeking more partnerships to support the country’s digital payment journey, ” she said.
The partnership comes at a time when Easy Taxi is looking for ways of further enhancing the way customers are paying for their services. In August 2015, Easy Taxi launched a new and innovative mode of payment, Easy Taxi Pay, an in-app cashless payment platform.
